Treasuredude's
Treasure Hunting/Metal Detecting Page
I got into metal
detecting a few years ago and have really enjoyed it. I don't get
out as much as I would like but when I do, I have a good
time. I currently use both a Garrett and a Whites
detector. Click here
for a pic of my weapons of choice. Also, here are a couple of
pics of some 'finds' that are typical along a popular beach -- Pic
1 Pic 2 .
I started with a
Garrett Freedom Ace Plus. It is a no frills detector that works
flawlessly. It is waterproof up to the control housing which
comes in handy for searching the banks of rivers, lakes, etc.
There is no target ID on this detector so you have to rely on the
sounds coming from the speaker to give you an idea of what is in the
ground. After some practice you can get pretty good at
telling the difference between trash and treasure.
Once I found out that I liked the
hobby, I was ready to move up to a more sophisticated machine.
Enter the White's Classic IDX. This detector is also waterproof
up to the control housing and is a joy to operate. The controls
are well laid out and easily changed. This detector has a target
I that will give you and idea of what it is you have found. I say
'idea' as the only way to know for sure is to dig it up.
If you decide to take up this
fascinating hobby and have any questions, drop me an email. Also, before you
take your new metal detector out for the first time, read the Treasure
