Cicindela splendida was not reported for South Dakota until 1997. We have collected this species from several locations in western South Dakota. C. splendida, C. denverensis, and C. limbalis are closely related and may be one species. Gary Marrone has collected C. splendida in copula with C. denverensis at Mirrors Lakes in western Lawrence County. Here, we find all three of these species occurring together. The pronotum is green or blue, contrasting with the cupreous elytra.
