Cicindela sexguttata is a woodland species. Although there are collection records in central and western South Dakota, we have rarely found this species outside of the Black Hills and extreme eastern South Dakota. The collection site map shows X? for reported collections where we can no longer find this species. In the summer of 2002 a specimen was collected near St. Francis, in Todd County by Doug Backlund.

C. sexguttata is a summer species. Look for this tiger beetle in June, July, and August. It can be found sunning on sunlit paths in forest or woodlands. Sometimes this species can be found on logs and downed trees near the ground.
