Cicindela lengi appears to be restricted to western South Dakota where it is uncommon
in
sand dunes and open sandy habitats. A spring-fall species, C. lengi is one of the
first tiger
beetles to appear in the spring. We have collected specimens as early as April 10. C.
lengi
may be confused with C. formosa but C. formosa is larger and lacks the
well develop
humeral lunule of C. lengi. In C. lengi, the humeral lunule extends
nearly to the elytral suture.
