Cicindela hirticollis is an uncommon species in South Dakota. Although this species appears to have a wide distribution, we have only collected it from sand bars on the Missouri River in southeast South Dakota. We have not found the species in the historic collection sites in the Black Hills or in Bennett County. Throughout the range of C. hirticollis, this species is reported to be most common on extensive sand beaches and large, sandy river bottoms. C. hirticollis is a summer species.
