Another angle on the same bird

Bushtits

A few flocks of these birds were seen in Irish Canyon. They respond very well to pishing.

Canyon Wren

Common, but hard to get close too. In Vermillion Canyon we found them feeding young close to the canyon floor.

Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel

Although they look like a chipmunk, they lack stripes on the face and are larger. Common and tame throughout the mountain west.

Dragonfly

I couldn't resist a shot and it came out pretty good.

Gates of Ladore

Doug and Charlie at the Gates of Ladore. The Green River is in the background.

Gray Flycatcher

We had this species right in camp in Irish Canyon.

Lincoln's Sparrow

A common nesting birds in the mountains, I often wonder why they don't nest in the Black Hills.

Loggerhead Shrike

Common everywhere we went except in the higher mountains.

Mormon Crickets

A mini invasion was occurring at Brown's Park. The birds were feasting on them.

Mountain Plover

This chick and another were on a gravel road with an adult, in Weld County CO, Pawnee National Grassland.

Adult, same place.

Red-naped Sapsucker

I wanted to find a Williamson's sapsucker but only found these.

Rock Wren

Common, this one was at the upper entrance to Vermillion Canyon.

Sage Grouse

Charlie spotted this sage grouse with young in Sand Wash, while we were looking for sage sparrows.

Sage Sparrow

My target bird, and a life bird too. We found them in Sand Wash, north of Maybell,Colorado. Although we looked hard in the Brown's Park area, we only saw one pair there. In Sand Wash, they were common.

Sage Sparrow

Another shot.

Vermillion Canyon

The Vermillion Canyon petroglyphs that Charlie guided me to. Check the link at the top of the page for more information.

Vermillion Canyon

Vermillion Canyon contains one of the most spectacular collections of petroglyphs found in Colorado. At least eight panels line the canyon walls. One petroglyph rises over six feet high on a ledge forty feet above the canyon floor.

Wilson's Warbler

Common in thickets along streams. Very difficult to photograph, they never hold still!

Wilson's Warbler

Persistance pays off.

Wilson's Warbler

Another shot.

Wilson's Warbler

I see you too.
