Cicindela formosa is a common tiger beetle in sandy habitats. This is a large, colorful species that is relatively easy to catch. This is a spring-fall species but C. formosa emerges later than other spring-fall species so tends to be present most of the summer. C. formosa can be confused with Cicindela lengi but C. formosa is larger and has a shorter labrum relative to the body length.
