Noted events in his life were:

• Emigration: Germany to America, 16 Jun 1845. 19 20 A letter from the main archives in Hesse County, Germany states Johann Peter Roether, his wife (not named), and their son Ludwig applied for immigration to the USA in 1845. He was 25 years old at the time and living in Winden Germany. J.P. Roether was a linen-weaver at the time, making clothing, towels, linen, etc. His son Ludwig was born 20 July 1843.

• Census: 1850, Mineral Point, Iowa, WI. Family is listed as "Reider" - John, 27, is a stonemason; wife is spelled "Epher" - 26 years old; both were born in Germany. Daughter Catherine is 2 and son John 2 months.

John married Eva CASPER on 8 Feb 1842 in Hübingen, Nassau, Germany.16 Eva was born on 28 Aug 1822 in Winden, Nassau, Germany,21 died on 19 Oct 1904 in Mineral Point, Iowa, WI 22 at age 82, and was buried in Oct 1904 in St. Mary's Church, Mineral Point, Iowa, WI.23

• Naturalization Petition: First Papers, Jul 1892, Boyd County, NE. 31 There are no actual papers on file at the courthouse but there is a notation that the first papers were filed in July 1892.

• Naturalization Final: Final Papers, 5 Jun 1900, Butte, Boyd, NE. Christine was naturalized with her husband, John Kercher. (John Kaichar, Naturalization Record No. 1 on Page 187. Boyd County District Court).

• Land: Homestead Patent #455583, 25 Jan 1915, Tripp Co., SD. Northwest Quarter of Section 9, Township 95 North, Range 76 West, of the 5th Principal Meridian, SD, containing 160 acres at the rate of $2.50 per acre amounting to $400.

Christine was able to file as the head of the household because her husband, John Kercher, was an invalid. The family lived near Wewela, SD.

Christina married Martin KLEEN 32 on 27 Feb 1922 in Marshall, Saline, MO.

Christina next married Johannes KERCHER, son of Andreas KERCHER and Catharina IMHOF, in 1885 in Russia. Johannes was born on 15 Apr 1861 in Odessa, Russia and died on 23 Sep 1911 in Wewela, Tripp, SD at age 50. Another name for Johannes was John.

Noted events in his life were:

• Health: Trampled by a horse, Cir 1890, Unknown. C.F. Zimmerman, M.D. wrote from Naper, NE on Feb. 16, 1910: This is to certify that I have examined Mr. John Karcher of naper Nebr. and finde (sic) him afected with a form of paralesis which I calim is incurable. Was trampled by a horse about 20 yrs ago and has been failing ever since. Has not been able to walk for about 5 yers and has been confined to his bead (sic) for one year. At presant (sic) has to be fed with a spoon.

Later generations of Kercher descendants have suffered a high incidence of Multiple Sclerosis and, therefore, believe that John was afflicted with the desease also.
